All questions
How often are exchange rates updated?
Rates are refreshed multiple times a day from open exchange-rate data and cached for up to 12 hours. The exact publication date of the rates you are seeing is always shown below the converter.
Are these live market rates?
The rates shown are mid-market reference rates — the midpoint between global buy and sell prices. Banks and money transfer services typically add a margin on top, so the rate you receive from them may differ.
Why do exchange rates change?
Currencies are traded around the clock on global markets. Rates move with supply and demand, which is driven by interest rates, inflation, trade flows, and economic and political news.
Is this currency converter free?
Yes. The converter is completely free to use, with no registration, no download, and no usage limits.
Which currencies are supported?
Over 40 major world currencies are supported, including the US Dollar, Euro, British Pound, Indian Rupee, Japanese Yen, and many more — with dedicated pages for the most popular pairs.
What is a mid-market exchange rate?
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices of two currencies on the global market. It is widely considered the fairest reference rate and is the rate you see on Google and financial news sites.
Why is my bank's rate different from the rate shown here?
Banks, card networks, and money transfer services add a margin (typically 1–4%) on top of the mid-market rate, and often charge additional fixed fees. Comparing their final rate against the mid-market rate shown here tells you the true cost of your exchange.
Can I see historical exchange rates?
Yes. Every currency pair page includes an interactive 30-day chart along with the 30-day high, low, and overall change — for example, the USD to INR page shows how the rupee moved against the dollar over the past month.
Where does the exchange rate data come from?
Rates come from open, publicly available exchange-rate data aggregated from multiple financial sources. If the primary source is temporarily unreachable, a fallback source and cached rates keep the converter working.
Do I need an account to use the converter?
No. There is no sign-up, no login, and no personal information required. Open the site and convert immediately.
Can I use these rates for accounting or invoicing?
The rates are suitable as a reference for estimates and comparisons. For official accounting, tax, or invoicing purposes, always use the rate mandated by your local tax authority or the actual rate applied by your financial institution.
Does the converter work on mobile?
Yes. The site is designed mobile-first with large touch targets and a fully responsive layout, so converting currencies is comfortable on any screen size.
